FDA approval

A check on a particular product and use.

What the letters stand for

The Food and Drug Administration handles reviews of US medicines. FDA is its short name.

Approval covers a particular medicine and what it is meant to treat; another medicine with the same ingredient is not automatically approved.

Semaglutide is the ingredient in Ozempic and in Wegovy. The ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound is tirzepatide. These products have FDA approval, checked on September 26, 2026.

A code or registration is a different thing

The National Drug Code directory uses a code called an NDC number to identify a product.

A product code alone does not show that a medicine has approval. The FDA's statement was checked on September 26, 2026.

Registering a business with the FDA does not mean its medicines are approved, as of September 26, 2026.

What exactly is the medicine called?

Ask for the ingredient name as well as the brand. Ask whether the medicine you would receive is the approved product or one made to order by a pharmacy.
